Are you a Worrier or a Warrior?
Anxiety seems to creep up so easily these days with work, family and life balance. We live in a society where we try to do it all. We want to be the best version of ourselves. Make more money, get fit, be the better parent, homemaker, cook, spouse, lover, best son or daughter and even maybe the best employee for all the over acheivers out there. Well, there's nothing wrong with that....Or is there?
The cause of anxiety is wanting a sense of control.
The root cause of anxiety is worry.
So when we worry, we start to want to control things. I mean think about it. We worry because things are not working out the way WE want them to. This may sound like a normal thing to feel or think, especially if it falls in line with normal and healthy thoughts. We may just want the atmosphere to be more calm, or for your child to just behave at that very moment. Wanting total control over these things will cause us to feel anxious because it isn't realistic. We can't control others, we can only really control ourselves. We either need to understand how to accept, or let go. Sometimes, the cure to anxiety is knowing your boundaries and cutting it out of your life. Starting with small steps. It's important that we learn to understand what we can and cannot control.
What healthy control looks like:
We can control certain things in our lives, such as these things that are stated above. In fact if we have control of these things in our lives, we will inevitably live a prosperous life. Am I talking about lots and lots of money? Not quite, but something even better than money. Peace. Stability. Ironically, the ultimate kind of control. There are many ways to get to this state. If you stop and carefully listen to your body and your needs, you will find what calms you. Breathing exercises is personally a favorite of mine. Simple, yet amazingly effective. I believe in this because I've learned through personal experiences, that breathing helped me get through my deliveries without anesthesia! I never sought a lamaze coach either. I was basically in a desperate panic mode and just listened to my body, and the only thing I had access to...was nothing. It was just me, my mind and my body. If you think this is impossible, you need to reach in deeper. We are all built with something higher in us to heal ourselves, naturally. Breathing correctly for your current bodily needs can be super beneficial. It is as easy as introducing deep breathing exercises into your life every morning.
Let's take a look at what you cannot control, unhealthy control:
We cannot control people. Period. I know, because in my younger years, I've tried. My mother wouldn't change, my husband wouldn't change, my family wouldn't change......and if these near and dear people cannot be controlled by us, we should start to understand that NOBODY can be! So do yourself a favor and stop wasting your time on trying to change things, and thinking about the past, or how things could or should be. This type of thinking is unhealthy and will do you a lot of harm if it continues.
We ALL make mistakes, we all have a past, we all wish we could've done things better. Free yourself and take hold of what you can do NOW to make your life better. Do not dwell on the past or wish someone would see the way you do. These traits and characteristics are rooted in 1. Worry- you're worried about your own personal wants or needs. Now, your personal wants and needs do matter, this is where communication comes into play. Talk to your friend or loved one about your thoughts. If you are not comfortable with this, you may have to overcome other things in your life to take this important step in your relationships and communicate. Communication is KEY. Then 2. is when you give birth to Control. Your worries will eventually turn into wanting to control people, matters and situations; and when you can't, you will likely do things that you may regret or create.....you got it, ANXIETY in you.
Won't you let go of your worries today? ~ Will you exercise the ability to accept or to let go? ~ Will you move forward today and reap the ultimate control? FREEDOM.
